How to use it

Use the top part for volumes (cups, spoons, millilitres) and the bottom part for weights (grams, ounces, pounds). Pick the measure your recipe uses carefully: an Australian metric cup is 250 mL, a US cup is about 236.6 mL, and an Australian tablespoon is 20 mL while a US or UK tablespoon is about 15 mL.

Converting between volume and weight (for example cups of flour to grams) depends on the ingredient’s density, so this tool does not guess; check the recipe or the packet for a weight.

FAQ

Why is an Australian tablespoon bigger?

Australia standardised the metric tablespoon at 20 mL (four teaspoons). Most other countries use 15 mL (three teaspoons). For small amounts of strong ingredients like baking soda or salt, the difference matters.

How many grams are in a cup?

It depends on the ingredient. A cup of water weighs about 250 g, but a cup of flour weighs much less and a cup of sugar more. Use a kitchen scale for baking accuracy.

Is a UK cup the same as an Australian cup?

Modern UK recipes that use cups usually mean the 250 mL metric cup, the same as Australia and New Zealand.
