Tipping customs vary: in Australia and New Zealand tipping is optional because award wages apply, and around 10% is common for good service at restaurants. In the United States 15–20% is customary.

Should the tip be on the amount before or after tax?
In Australia prices include GST, so just tip on the total. In the US many people tip on the pre-tax amount.
