How to use it
Enter a starting balance, an interest rate and a number of years, and choose how often interest is added. The formula is A = P(1 + r/n)nt. Monthly deposits are spread evenly across each compounding period and added at the end of it.
The more often interest compounds, the faster the balance grows, but the difference between monthly and daily is small.
FAQ
What is the rule of 72?
Divide 72 by the annual interest rate to estimate how many years money takes to double. At 6% it is about 12 years.
What is the difference between interest rate and comparison rate?
A comparison rate in Australia includes most fees as well as interest, to make loans easier to compare. Savings accounts are compared on their interest rate.
